63 and 9 Meet for Vehicle
Rescue Training
On
July 27, 2009, Station 63 and Station 9 (Factoryville) spent a hot summer
night doing some vehicle rescue training. Crews first reviewed the use of
basic hand tools, before moving on to the use of airbags. Pictured on the
left, Asst. Chief Gow (black helmet) calls the lift, as Firefighter Ryman
(lower yellow helmet) operates the bags. As the night progressed crews put
the Junk Yard Dogs stabilization system carried by Rescue 9 to work,
stabilizing a vehicle on it's side. This allowed crews to roll the roof of
a vehicle in this position. Pictured on the right, Firefighters Siegrist
(yellow helmet) and Atkinson (black helmet) use a reciprocating saw to cut
through the "C" post of the vehicle before the roof is can be rolled. Crews
enjoyed the chance to get their hands dirty, and more training is in the
works for the near future, focusing on the use of hydraulic tools.
