63 Trains With Station 5
On
Tuesday night, crews from 63 trained with Ladder 5 and Tanker 5
(Dalton). Crews were walked through Ladder 5, and also spent some time
on the ladder itself. Time was spent pumping Tanker 5, and supplying
the ladder pipe. All crews involved enjoyed the training, and more
training of the same kind is being planned for the future.

Brush
and Manpower Assist 18
At approximately 18:30 hours,
Brush 63 was requested along with manpower to assist Station 18 (Clifford)
on a brush fire off of Rt. 92 in the area of the Shady Rest Campgrounds.
Brush 63 responded with a total of 4 personnel and assisted with the
extensive overhaul. Crews returned to service after about 3 hours.
63 Doubles Up on Wednesday
At approx. 14:30
hours Engine 63 and Squad 63 were dispatched to a 1 car MVA on Rt. 407 about
1 mile south of Fleetville Corners. Captain 63 (Barber) arrived on
scene reporting a one vehicle roll over with one self extricated patient
with minor injuries. Engine 63 and Engine 5 (Dalton) handled the
traffic control while PSP investigated, and the patient was transported to a
medical center aboard CLS. Units operated on scene for approximately
one hour.

Then at
approximately 17:45 hours, Engine 63 and Squad 63 along with Rescue 9 and
Ambulance 9 (Factoryville) were dispatched for the report of a child locked
in a vehicle. Chief 63 (Saxton) arrived on scene and established
command. Crews assisted the residents in gaining access to the vehicle
which was accomplished using a lock out kit.

8 Run Weekend for 63
Saturday,
April 18, 2009 started out at approximately 10:30 hours, when Station 63 was
dispatched to a brush fire on Jordan Hollow Rd. in Benton Twp. Brush
63 and Tanker 63 initially responded and requested Brush 36 and Tanker 36
(Scott Twp). Engine 63 was at Station 18 (Clifford Twp.) for a Pump
Ops. I class at the time of dispatch, and also responded. Brush 63 and
Brush 36 knocked the bulk of the fire down, and the crew from Engine 63
assisted with manpower for the overhaul. Tanker 63 and Tanker 36
supplied the water. Crews operated on scene for approx. 1 hour before
returning to service.

Then
at approximately 12:30 hours the second brush fire of the day was dispatched
to a residence on Rt. 107 about 1 mile towards I-81 from Fleetville corners.
Engine 63 turned around at Station 18 and responded on the box along with
Brush 63 and Tanker 63. Engine 9 (Factoryville) was requested to
assist with manpower, and Ambulance 9 was later requested to scene for
rehab. Crews operated at this scene for approximately 1 ½ hours.

As
crews were attempting to leave the second brush fire of the day, a full
response was requested by Command 36 to assist with a brush fire on Mannings
Rd. in their coverage. Engine 63, Brush 63, and Tanker 63 all
responded. Brush 63 assisted with the fire attack/ overhaul, while
Tanker 63 filled brush trucks, and the crew from Engine 63 was added to
Brush 63. Chief 63 (Saxton) was in charge of water supply. Crews
operated on this fire for approx. 3 hours.

Towards the end of the third brush fire, yet another was dispatched.
Station 63, Station 9, and Station 36 were dispatched to a brush fire on Rt.
107, this time in the area of Lake Sheridan. Chief 63A (Walton)
responded and requested all units hold at there present location, as Wyoming
County advised him that the caller stated the fire was out. Chief 63A
arrived on scene and place all units back in service.
Shortly
after 16:00 hours, as crews were still working the brush fire with Area 36,
Squad 63 was dispatched to assist Station 17 (Nicholson) for a brush fire in
their coverage. Due to all crews being tied up, the Squad was not able
to respond.
All 63
units finally returned to service for the rest of the day around 18:30
hours. Engine 63 was not able to return to class.
Sunday,
April 19, 2009, started out early when Station 63, Station 9, and
Station 36 were dispatched for the automatic fire alarm on Seamens Rd. in
Benton Twp. Chief 63 (Saxton) arrived on scene reporting a false alarm
and returned all companies.
Then at
approx. 13:15 hours, Station 63 was alerted to a brush fire on Rt. 107 about
1 mile from I-81. Brush 63 responded in under a minute, with Engine 63
and Tanker 63 close behind. Chief 63A (Walton) arrived on scene
establishing the “107 Command”, reporting 1 acre burning. Brush 63
initiated the attack and knocked the bulk of the fire down. Engine 63
was used for the mop up, and all units returned to service after appox. 1 ½
hours.
The final
run of the weekend came in just before 19:00 hours, when Squad 63 was
dispatched along with Ambulance 9 and ALS for a medical emergency at a
residence on Amasa Rd. Both units responded, and the patient was
transported to a medical center by Ambulance 9.

Engine Added to 18 Structure Assignment
On
April 13, 2009, a crew of 3 took Engine 63 to Station 18 (Clifford) as part of a
pump class. As Engine 63 pulled into the parking lot at approx. 18:30 hours,
Station 18 was alerted to the working structure fire on Tinderbrook Rd., in
Clifford Twp. Chief 18 (T.Turner) requested Engine 63 respond on the
box. The Engine crew arrived and laddered the building before
assisting with the extensive overhaul. The crew operated on scene for
approximately 3 hours before returning to Station 18 for the remainder of
the class.

63 Rolls Engine and Tanker for 1st Due Shed Fire
At
approx. 10:45 hours on
April 10, 2009, Station 63 was dispatched along with
Station 9 (Factoryville) and Station 36 (Scott Twp.) for a fully involved
shed fire on Jordan Hollow Rd in Benton Twp. Rescue 36 was already on
the road and reported visible flames as they were responding. Due to
its location, Rescue 36 arrived on scene first with Chief 36 (Tratthen)
establishing the command and reporting a 12’X12’ shed fully involved.
Crews from Rescue 36 and 63 initiated an attack with a 1 ¾” handline, and
knocked the bulk of the fire down. Chief 63 (Saxton) arrived and
assumed command, requesting Station 9 return to service, and units from 63
continue in to the scene to assist with overhaul and water supply.
Crews mopped up and returned to service after operating for approximately 1
hour.
