Afternoon Storm Rips Through Fleetville
Friday
afternoon,
June 26, 2009, suddenly
became very busy for crews from 63. A sever thunderstorm rolled
through the coverage, knocking out power to many areas and causing multiple
trees to come down blocking roadways. Crews operated for approximately
5 hours in order to clear many of the roadways. Along with tree
removal, crews also handled a reported pole fire. Then as crews were
cleaning up equipment from the afternoon, Tanker 63 was dispatched to assist
Station 5 (Dalton) for an activated fire alarm at a residence on Reynolds
Rd. The tanker stood by at station due to many road closures and was
later returned to service by command.

and Ambulance 9 transported the patient along with ALS.
The second run of the day came in at approximately 16:00 hours when Squad 63
was dispatched for an MVA involving a bus in the area of the entrance to the
Lackawanna State Park. Chief 63 (Saxton) went enroute and requested
Engine 63 be added to the run. He also requested Ambulance 9 to the
scene. Chief 63 went on scene and established the "407 Command",
reporting a bus into the telephone pole with only one patient, adding the
incident was actually about 3/4 of a mile north of Wallsville Corners.
Squad 63 packaged the patient who was then transported by Ambulance 9.
The Squad was then used along with the Engine for traffic control.
